The name Duir Design is derived from the ancient
Irish name of the Oak tree, "Duir." This tree holds a significant
symbolic meaning in ancient Irish culture and is considered one of the
most sacred trees. Darragh strives to create outdoor spaces that are not
only beautiful but also meaningful. The Oak tree serves as a symbol of
strength, endurance, protection and connection to the natural world. Its
significance is incorporated in his work and serves as a constant
source of inspiration. He aims to bring the meaningful aspect of nature
into every garden design project he works on, making the Oak tree a
perfect symbol for his garden design business.
Darragh has a solid professional background in Product Design & Innovation, holding a BSc. with first-class honours in this area. He is currently pursuing his professional development with the GDAI, Dublin as a Post graduand in Garden Design. Throughout his career, he has gained a wealth of experience and accolades that have prepared him to start his own successful design business, including National Finalist in Trash2Cash competition and awarded certificate of merit from the Minister for the Environment while also being a final named inventor on a European patented product.
In addition to his academic pursuits, he has also gained practical experience while living in South East Asia over a five-year period, engaging in significant horticultural and permaculture endeavours. He worked on a hydroponic farm in Ubon Ratchathani,(Eastern Thailand); attended permaculture courses at the Royal Flora Ratchaphruek Park (Royal Botanic Gardens) in Chiang Mai (Northern Thailand) where he worked with thousands of species of trees, flowers and shrubs on 80 hectares of landscaped gardens. These experiences have not only allowed him to develop a diverse skill set, but have also sparked his passion for eco-friendly and sustainable business practices.
With his combination of design and
horticultural expertise, Darragh is excited to offer high-quality garden
design services that focus on sustainability and eco-friendliness. He
offers a range of design options, including 2D plans, 3D photorealistic
renders, and VR (virtual
reality) immersive renders. His designs prioritise bringing gardens back
to nature, using native Irish plants and eco-friendly practices and
materials wherever possible. He also has a strong reclaim waste policy,
incorporating upcycled and recycled materials into his designs and using
secondhand materials when possible. He believes that by using
sustainable and eco-friendly approaches, we can create beautiful outdoor
spaces that not only enhance the natural environment, but also benefit
it for future generations.
